I've been trying things out, and it seems it was the fact I reached a level of games that I can no longer force my playstyle on the enemy every game, as they know now how to counter Sona's poke. She is still my main love and forever will be, but I learned to play more safely and overall focus on helping my team make the plays over forcing myself to seek them out. But on the other hand, Rakan has been a rather big success for me, with the way he can easily follow up on initiation and set up powerful CC chains in Team Fights, and I deeply enjoy his playstyle. Thank you everyone who took their time to answer on this topic with help and assistance. For anyone looking for answers within this thread, here is a tldr: - pick supports that have clear and simple playstyles, so your teammates know what is happening and how to react to it; - focus your effort on the strongest player in your team, aka the highest damage dealer; it's pointless to use CC to save an 0/10 adc if your mid is 8/0 and can use it as well; - limit yourself to a smaller number of champions and learn them through and through; - infernal drake > first tower; first tower > dive kills; - don't die, as simple as that; if you are not 100% you will survive a play, don't do it; - think when placing wards, make Vision hard to find and Stealth should cover the most pathways through the jungle; - be ready to be the one to cool hot heads in your team; I have to calm people down every other game and just tell them to farm, def and wait for an enemy mistake;

No what? Supports are splendid roamers. Just look Bard or Rakan. They can carry a big chunk of damage, especially early when the enemy adc has not yet built proper life steal to counter it. Their items are overall cheaper than any AP or AD champions. Overall building damage is the most expensive in League. And if you see you are snowballing and outmatch the enemy lane on the pure level of skill, it's super easy to build support into damage and have surprisingly high burst windows. And seeing as you will never be alone in fights, you will just set up easy picks for your team. Overall I belive supports have a preset itemization paths, either Redemption, Censer, Crucible/Athene or Locket, Randuin's, Abyssal and Stoneplate. For an overall look/idea on things.

: Support role is in bad spot for long time. Item changes didn't help. Just look at lcs, so many times midlaner or toplaner oneshots support trying to ward, they force baron and its game. Majority of supports are overnerfed (Karma, Soraka) other are weak purely by item changes (Nami, Janna) and even AP dmg supports like Brand can't do much because unless they get massively fed, they are underleveled, with little gold and from my own experience even full combo to all 5 enemy players won't allow your team to win it. Best supports to carry with lately: {{champion:497}} - very forgivable in lane unlike other supports, he can disengage from almost everything and his W with its range is so unexpected, its so easy to land the combo on enemies and unlike Sona R enemy adc cant just use mercurial and smash you {{champion:37}} - low elo stomper, win lane, get all kills and carry. Except when it doesn't work anymore you migh as well look for another champion. Still one of the best if you can win lane and get kills. {{champion:432}} - his R is so powerful cc, you can carry the game just by one good ult that catch enemy adc+support. Also has been buffed recently and has potential to do massive damage against one target. and tank supports - even underleveled and with low gold, many of them are almost unkillable, also most of them are engagers hence its now your responsibility to engage/catch someone and help your team to kill him which is as close to "carry the game" you can get as support. Also new trend in pro scene is to pick standard toplaner like Trundle, Seju, Shen, Poppy and put him support (guess why - yup because real supports are simply weaker). If you like playing support champion/style and you also want to have bigger impact on game, then: 1) play FLEX and get yourself a good ADC player who will carry 2) or try playing midlane uttility mages like Lux or Orianna 3) or just go mid with your best champion like Zilean/Sona/Karma/Lulu and smash enemy midlaner 4) or go jungle if the support you want to play is not so strong in sololane Even in midlane/toplane/jungle, with same champion your impact wll be much higher than in support role granted you know the role, you won't feed and you won't fall behind. I queue for Support and Jungle, but since no one queues the former, I haven't played the later in half a year? I picked up Rakan, was training with him for some time and... I am okay with him, I guess. From all the rankeda I played, only once did we lose lane, but omce more my team fails to maintain the momentum late game and we lose. But then again, from my last 10 games, only two didn't have a troll or afk, and I won those two. I feel like Rakan is super strong right now, with his shields, mobility and CC lock potential. Just not as the main initiator. Overall I feel disappointed with Gold. It's exactly the same as Bronze, with players lacking basic understanding of game concepts. Garen top having 48 farm in a 40 minutes game. Riven leaving lane 2/11/1. Tryndamere top never leaving his lane, pushing all the time and having 0 map presence elsewhere, dying to 5 man ganks when we fail to defend mid. I just cannot seem to transition early game to late game.
: First, as an Old support main (Nami and Zyra) I suggest you to change your role because support is not in a good spot for carrying since you rely on your team way more than any other role, there are a couple of reasons: - Lack of gold for itemization. - You need to stick with someone and can't roam unless your lane is fed. - You don't do any damage, even if you set up a kill, its your adc or mid laner or who ever is in your team to use that in their advantage and win the game, not you, that wouldn't happen if you were in any other role. - All of them are overnerfed and people don't expect too much about them, and yeah, its not a winrate issue, they are still overnerfed, in other ways. But if you really really really want to carry as support start using champions like Blitzcrank, Thresh and Brand, those 3 carry better than others, and if you are premade Lulu or Janna are really good (because the peel and the shields). Anyway good luck, and remember, try to improve on your playstyle more than in your role / champion, you will find a limit on a champion but probably not as a shotcaller which carries most games if they follow up.
Sona: Q -> Chord AA into the endmy adc can easily deal third of his/her hp on it's own. It's like bouncing Fortune's Q into them. Add a Lich Bane as a last item and you deal half their health in that simple rotation. Nami: W with 200+ AP will scale exponentially, meaning every bounce will start gaining strength. Go Ardent, Athene, Archangel Redemption and you will easily bounce the third W for over 400 dmg on a short CD. As for gold, support items are much cheaper than ap/ad items. And the role of support is learning to do more with less. Redemption is 2.3k total? Ardent is 2.2k I think. Athene around 2.1-2.3k as well. AP items are in the 2.7-3k area. AD items are similarly priced. If you can proc your support item gold income, you will easily keep up with the enemy. Also... Each Vision ward is 30 gold, each Stealth is 10 gold. 3 gold every 8 sec from Pickpocket. It does add up nicely if you can exploit it and care for your passive cooldowns.

Shen has no sustain on lane as support, can be easily poked out of it and needs to take teleport over exhaust to prevent his adc to be solo on lane half the time. I used to play old Shen as support, worked nice. But since his Q rework it's not that good anymore.

Sona is very verstile and can adapt to most team compositions. Leona is dificult to play, as when you fall behind, you never catch up and cannot be the tank for the team, just a bit of walking CC and aditional burst with the passive. Nami is... She feels more aggressive than Sona, yet more reliant on her adc to deal the dmg than the Mute, but on the other hand having more hard CC and a bit of a different heal. Sona can be both super aggressive and pushing the lane as well as passive and staying behind and healing. She has potent anti dive utility and can easily keep towers safe from sieges. Nami can engage and disengage, depending what she needs, her main poke will jump into self heal, so she should be a bit safer on lane. Her ult is... I think it's weaker than Sona's in most cases, but outshines it with certain team compositions. Leona on the other hand is an all in no way out support with potent burst. She can be built both pure tanky or more burst/utility, depending on what your team needs. But if your lane is struggling, she will be weak late game, offering no pressure of her own on the map. Not to mention in my opinion the Healing/Shielding supports are much better now, with Athene, Ardent and Redemption way outclassing the Locket/tank builds.

: I'm playing every role and I'm a jack of all the trades and master of none, and to be honest carrying as a sup is the most difficult thing. You need to carry your adc in lane in hopes that he will carry later. This said, a lot depends on the adc and the champs you play as sup. you can carry the lane by playing an ap mage sup, but you are not carrying your adc, unless you can give him all the kills, you can play defensive sup like braum, tahm, but if you don't have a team who can exploit your kit then it doesn't really matter how well you play. you can play healers like nami or sona, but they are not that good at what they're doing. Sure you can build ap sona and deal %%%tons of damage but you not doing what a sup is supposed to do. in my experience the one and only sup you can carry with is soraka! It doesn't matter if you adc is bad or stupid, your midlaner has fed or not, you just need to get to point where you can keep every one alive. IT's so forgiving that it's unfair, but it has it's drawbacks too. If enemy team is clever and focuses you first, then you need to be play extra hard, so you don't die. One more thing you can do is coordinating your team, which is just plain hard. Not everyone listens, everyone has their strategy and ego. You waste time writing stuff, so...
The problem is... As support main I know all the tricks of shutting down a Soraka, which makes me feel like she is super weak. Especially since the Amulet Coin line lost it's passive health regen from minions. From my full support roster... I play Sona mostly, Nami when I want something different. Leona if my team has 0 tanks and lately picked up Rakan and doing quite well with him. The bird guy feels like having the most play-making potential from the whole support role, paired with perhaps Thresh. For now, after re-watching some of my games, I realized my problem is... Trying to take initiative a bit too much. Which sometimes places me in a position where my team takes a step back and I am exposed. Or my team not following up on my Sona ults, leaving us weakened and more exposed in the future teamfight. But end of the game if I have a 2/11/1 Riven top lane vs a Jarvan 4, there is nothing I can do to defend my adc. As the J4 just jumps in on them twice and kills mid, supp and adc in one burst rotation. But yeah... I try to learn. Thanks for the help ^.^

: That is how I have played Sona and it is working for me. She is the only support I don't build typical support items on. The items might seem unfitting and not support like. But for me it works very well. The edge with that is that, I can snowball in lane with the damage. The con is that, it is hard to escape when getting ganked. I don't recommend people building that once they hit higher elo. But anything Gold and below, it is a breeze. This guy said he is having problems with what to do if his teammates are feeding. If everyother lane would feed... then unless enemy make major mistakes before the lane phase ends. It is very hard to win. And if I would be playing traditional utility support Soraka, Janna whatever. I'd say... you can't do much. This way is the only 'hard carry' support I know that Sona can do. Unless you wanna play Zyra and build AP, you can hard carry with that too. But this guy was talking about playing Sona.
I used to rush Lich Bane and Tear in Bronze and Silver, but that build is too expensive for Gold games already. Sona is too squishy to force the lane so forward, unless you get proper attention from your jungler and mid to catch out the incoming ganks, which is a nice strategy if your mid gets slightly ahead. I've done that. My deaths recently are something that's utterly bogling me... I used to die like 5 times total for a game, even if we were losing it. Now it seems I am prone to catch every WW ult for my adc and it's just OHKO for me later in the game. I can do decent on lane, but then someone like Katarina, Oriana or say Darius will just push through the entire team to demolish me so I cannot ult in teamfights before they even start properly. It's something I have to work on, but it doesn't help if my team is chasing kills across the jungle while one enemy is split pushing top which I cannot hold solo. My want to go build now is a rush on Sightstone, because some junglers can take those drakes before you can even sneeze 400 gold. Then I try to grab a Forbidden Idol and rush for Eye of the Watchers. I will build into Ardent Censer, then Athene's and then Redemption. But recently the games end before I can get three items. I am a bit puzzled about the build truth be told... Redemption was changed into a... 3rd or 4th item with it's scaling now and it's poop on lane alone. Censer will outscale it 100% of the time. But if my team is losing to much, I will fail to get the Censer before lane phase ends, as we will lose towers left and right. I feel like I am constantly behind in gold and exp now days.

: The customization runes offer is good, but there is not a single good reason that excuses barring new players from getting runes, especially since masteries are free. Riot obviously knows this and made tier 2 runes free already, but for reasons unknown tier 3 runes still cost an exorbitant amount of IP. Possibly because they can't decide if/how to reimburse existing players for the runes and pages they purchased. If the rune system is ever removed, I would expect it to be replaced by an alternative customization system, not be straight out deleted.
Masteries are by no means free. You get a point per summoner level. As I see it now, runes are juat a means of making new players take their time before they rush into rankeds. I hope no one goes there without at least one full rune page.

Runes are that tiny bit of customisation you get to make your champ that tiny bit unique. Same as masteries. While yes, they could be removed, so could the masteries be removed. And in game items. Let's make all champs have a predefined advancement curve based on their level. Imo, runes are a vital part of gameplay. A support can have two diferent playstyles would you pick purely ap runes or more defence oriented ones.

As a Leona main, I can tell you that a stick has two ends. Leona is an all in support. And out of the 100 tines you go all in, your adc will follow like 10 times. Then you are left behind and can’t do a thing late game but press R. It's better to be safe than feed.

I feel for you. From similar stories of my own. Got my Vayne to a 7/1/2 score on lane. I was quite certain nothing can go wrong. How was I wrong... She did not participate in a single fight afterwards. Finished the game with a score of 8/9/4 and blamed it all on lack of protection. I start to feel like building anything but dmg on supp becomes inadvisable if you want to raise ranks. Can't trust your teammates, sadly... #SupportYourSupport

This topic was created in hopes of finding a solution to the present problem of DC/AFK players. I would propose to extend the remake option for the whole game. And if that is not an option, to allow players who finished the game without at least one teammate to seek the option to have their loss forgiven within the leagues system. While at the same time keeping the LeaverBuster as it is now, as it's quite competent tool of punishment.

: Yes, I edited that part out since. On the HP/regeneration front, Relic Shield can compete. But I think you underestimate the value of additional AD early on. It doesn't mark it hard per se, but you will inevitably miss a small number of CS that you would otherwise have gotten. Even the 5 damage from the "Savagery" mastery make a very noticeable difference, and pretty much all laners take it.
I am just curious what others think. I intend to try it with a friend, for that sweet Ardent Censer rush on Rakan. It will offer a serious boost to both him and Xayah, from the AP and AS steroid for her.

It will proc on any minion kill whatever the source, as long as the damage came from the owner of relic shield who had at least one stack of the passive.

Edit: I forgot that Relic Shield allows you to buy two additional potions, which offset the missing lifesteal, at least early on. In fact, I'm tempted to try this next time I have a support that can snowball hard like Brand, Zyra or Sona.
You lose 5HP as Relic shield has 75HP of it's own. Then you get 15HP per used stack of Relic Shield and you can start with 3 Potions instead of the Doran's Blade 1. So if you are pushed out of your wave due to low hp, you are less susceptible to low health regeneration. And honestly... If 8AD makes it hard to last hit, what are you doing in rankeds?

: Relic on ADC is great for the Support as he/she will get additional gold. However, on an ADC it will delay your damage. I guess picking it up second item and upgrading it much later in the game would be ok, but it will still take a slot away from another item.
Some ADCs like Vayne, Kog'maw, etc. are quite item heavy. I believe it would hasten your own key items as well as help your support get those power spike items of their own. Looking at Redemption and Locket now. All you sacrifice is a negligible power early on, which can just be negated with a more farm oriented playatyle.

Smurfs and elo boosters are boosting people that should rot in b5, but since they want to win they need to carry thsoe idiots and then I get that boosted trash in my game and he fails totally and before he falls to his skill level he will destroy many games, that is not reportable or punishable in any way, cause he is only feeding and playing like an idiot, so what he will destroy like 20 or 30 games before getting to his skill level, really no one cares. MMR isa good joke, I wasfalling down recently to like bronze level of MMR cause of trolls and afkers in 65% of the games, played 3 games with smurfs and my MMR skyrocket to silver levels again. Its not even based on your skill its based on team skill, thats why its boosting so many stupid kids that fail later if the booster is no longer playing with them. EUNE needs radical treatemnt of ban waves and overall cleaning with manipulating noobs MMR directly, and the ability to disable ranked play for many people until they decide to read the damn patchnotes and learn what is objective of this game. This server is so damn toxic that I dont even, trolls in 65% of games, thats should never happen, but its happening right now with 0 reaction from our dear RIOT that left everything to their automated banning systems that are chat restricitng people that say racist joke in chat, but allow intentional feeders to go on rampage for about 20 games before banning them. Server is filled with idiots, afkers and trolls to the point the game is no longer any fun. Matchmaking is failing hard due to smurfs and elo boosters and its quite easy to see them after you look at stats after game, cause no one will tell me that jinx with 8 farm peminute in b5 is not smurf/elo booster, and she will go trough all bronze league destroying many games in the proccess, as no one has chance to win against smurf from diamond or plat, and there is quite large amount of bored smurfs that keep making new accounts to screw other players and have some entertaimnet on noobs. This sever is highly toxic and full of trolls. GG RIOT.
You do realise you are quite toxic yourself right now? The only automated part of banning system is LeaverBuster. The rest is purely manual. And as of now, it works pretty well. But it does not change the fact, that PvP is a roulette right now, of who is going to get the afk/troll. With the implementation of replays, I would suggest the option to offer those for a permanent ban request, would he player clearky and bluntly display themswlves as intentionally assisting the enemy team, be it through feeding, offering informations about his own team or any other form of trolling. The fact that matchmaking balance is nonexistent is another matter, but I believe it's mostly caused be rewards based on League at the end season, which promotes account selling. The push for KDR over objectives is quite hilarious, as I've seen junglers win games just by being on the other side of the map than the fight and just pushing towers. Follow is not always desired, as you can easily push the lane, preventing your opponent to gain the gold and exp from the minions. You can move to the other side of the map to cause some preasure there. Granted your lane that your lane enemy is moving to can defend itself under the tower.

I have no idea why so many people is playing this game when they don't really bother to get into it, like reading patch notes, changing strategy and items, and in general playing to win instead of playing for just playing, if they want to just play to waste time there is always NORMAL mode for that, but nah lets go ranked with 300 ping then go afk, or lets pick support and start farm then go afk. Riot is not even trying to make the expirience better, they put some automated banning system and forgot about everything else, and that automated banning system is simply not working. Smurfs and elo boosters are boosting people that should rot in b5, but since they want to win they need to carry thsoe idiots and then I get that boosted trash in my game and he fails totally and before he falls to his skill level he will destroy many games, that is not reportable or punishable in any way, cause he is only feeding and playing like an idiot, so what he will destroy like 20 or 30 games before getting to his skill level, really no one cares. MMR isa good joke, I wasfalling down recently to like bronze level of MMR cause of trolls and afkers in 65% of the games, played 3 games with smurfs and my MMR skyrocket to silver levels again. Its not even based on your skill its based on team skill, thats why its boosting so many stupid kids that fail later if the booster is no longer playing with them. EUNE needs radical treatemnt of ban waves and overall cleaning with manipulating noobs MMR directly, and the ability to disable ranked play for many people until they decide to read the damn patchnotes and learn what is objective of this game. This server is so damn toxic that I dont even, trolls in 65% of games, thats should never happen, but its happening right now with 0 reaction from our dear RIOT that left everything to their automated banning systems that are chat restricitng people that say racist joke in chat, but allow intentional feeders to go on rampage for about 20 games before banning them. Server is filled with idiots, afkers and trolls to the point the game is no longer any fun. Matchmaking is failing hard due to smurfs and elo boosters and its quite easy to see them after you look at stats after game, cause no one will tell me that jinx with 8 farm peminute in b5 is not smurf/elo booster, and she will go trough all bronze league destroying many games in the proccess, as no one has chance to win against smurf from diamond or plat, and there is quite large amount of bored smurfs that keep making new accounts to screw other players and have some entertaimnet on noobs. This sever is highly toxic and full of trolls. GG RIOT.
You do realise you are quite toxic yourself right now? The only automated part of banning system is LeaverBuster. The rest is purely manual. And as of now, it works pretty well. But it does not change the fact, that PvP is a roulette right now, of who is going to get the afk/troll. With the implementation of replays, I would suggest the option to offer those for a permanent ban request, would he player clearky and bluntly display themswlves as intentionally assisting the enemy team, be it through feeding, offering informations about his own team or any other form of trolling. The fact that matchmaking balance is nonexistent is another matter, but I believe it's mostly caused be rewards based on League at the end season, which promotes account selling. The push for KDR over objectives is quite hilarious, as I've seen junglers win games just by being on the other side of the map than the fight and just pushing towers. Follow is not always desired, as you can easily push the lane, preventing your opponent to gain the gold and exp from the minions. You can move to the other side of the map to cause some preasure there. Granted your lane that your lane enemy is moving to can defend itself under the tower.

I had this happen to me earlier today. First a message about depatched client to an older version then the error about invalid password. What I did was restart the client, which made the client do a patch restart with a 0.1MB update window. Then all seemed to work perfectly. Although I would like to inform, that this error happened to me right after the DirectX error when trying to join a PvE game.

Not to mention the terrorist on champ select that threaten you to feed or afk if you don't give them lane they want, and you can't even report those %%%%ing idiots. This game in its current state is most %%%%ing stupid thing on %%%%ing planet.
I never were long in Bronze, so can't tell. Placement matches dropped me in B1-2 I think and I got out of there in a few games. Silver was okay, but since I reached Gold it's a real trouble. So far Gold has been the worst of the three Leagues I've been in. On the other hand, I would ask to keep this thread polite and without swearing. There is a problem of AFK players, then there is the problem of Toxic players. Separate issues. As for a solution... I would suggest to expand the Remake option to the whole game, if one player goes AFK. It saves the trouble for the team playing with a disadvantage while at the same time punishing the AFKer as usual. Or at least an option to ask for a "Loss Forgiven", if one or more players are AFK. While it's not impossible to win 4v5, it requires an ammount of cooperation that is very rarely seen in Solo Queue. I managed to win such games like twice in my years of playing. And each time the people I won with, were of the sorts of calm, friendly guys that you just love to play with. I am a support main, I don't play other roles. Jungle very rarely. Queue as support and you are 99% placed there. Support is by far the worst role to "carry" the game with. Because if you play on the peak of your abilities, you still put all the gained advantage into another player, not yourself. While there are some supports, like Brand, Annie or Malzahar, who can just go full AP and don't give a damn, it's not my playstyle. I am currently sitting in Gold IV with 71% win rate on Sona, 6!% on Nami and 56% on Leona. So I would say I am more or less okay in terms of skill. But even then I cannot "carry" an AFK player.

: Have you tried reinstalling DirectX?
It had no updates recently, so it should be all fine. Seeing as the game was perfectly fine before it downloaded the newest patch not even half an hour ago. I am going through the client repair now, but if it does not help, will try the directX reinstall. Edit: just ran a DxDiag and all is up to date, DirectX 11 is installed as it should be for a Win 7.

It's been my core build on Sona for some time now, rush for Redemption and Locket. Your W is a smart heal and an AoE shield to everyone nearby. Then your Locket is another shield to all nearby buffed by Redemption. Add to that Censor and you have a constant AS buff on all nearby allies, as your heal shields are on like 3-4 sec cooldown?

You do not understand the idea. It's not available if you have all members active. But the constant 9 man games are stupid. I played 5 rankeds today. 3 of them were finished without at least one player. It's not a rare problem, it's a rather common one. And the myth of 20 minute queues is just hilarious. I never had a queue longer than 4-5 minutes, so I do not know where you come from. On the other hand, I am just a low gold player, so perhaps in higher Leagues it looks diferent. But the problem remains, most of the games are set up by trolls, poor connections, rage quitters. It's unfair towards the 4 man team. That's my opinion... Flame can be and should be reported every time, and I do it regardless of the player's performance or the game's outcome. But AFK is something you have no influence over and it's just plain unfair.

You can do everything right, and the adc will decide to lose the lane/game because he dislikes our jungler/mid/top/has bad day/mom called/something else.

As a silver support main on EUNE... You can spoonfeed kills to your teammates, and they will still lose the game for you. Depending on what division you are in, I would suggest picking one lane that you see is doing best and helping them carry. Your top priority should be securing the objectives first and foremost. Ganking, counterganking, all that is secondary. You can easily win games without a single gank, by just spiltpushing towers and backdooring. But then again it all depends on your league and which champs you like to play, as some are better to split than others.
